Katarina Cas

Katarina Cas

Katarina Cas is one of the most popular Slovenian actresses working today, building a career that moves confidently between Slovenia, Europe, Britain and the United States. From Hollywood blockbusters to BBC dramas, she has established herself as an international presence whose choices reflect both range and precision. Though her role in The Wolf of Wall Street lasted only minutes, she became the first Slovenian actress to step into Scorsese’s world, and she did it with a bachelor’s degree in economics tucked stylishly under her arm.

Born and raised in Slovenia, Cas grew up in front of the camera, first as a model and television host, long before she became one of her country’s most recognisable acting exports. That early exposure gave her something invaluable: instinct. She understands framing, rhythm, and presence. She knows when to hold back and when to lean in. It’s a skill that has served her well as she moved from local stardom to international screens.

Global audiences first took notice when she appeared in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. Although her role was brief, it marked a historic moment as she became the first Slovenian actress to appear in a Scorsese film. Sharing the screen in such a high-profile production signalled her arrival on the world stage and opened the door to further international opportunities.

She went on to play the fiancée of Al Pacino in Danny Collins, a film with strong comedic elements, demonstrating her ease with humor and her ability to hold her own opposite one of cinema’s most iconic actors. Her international film work also includes the stylish thriller Terminal and the Irish hit The Guard, further reinforcing her versatility across tone and genre.

Most recently, Cas appears in the BBC series Wild Cherry, written by BAFTA winner Nicole Lecky for BBC ONE and currently airing on BBC iPlayer. In the series, she takes on a strong supporting role, portraying a woman who evolves from emotionally closed and outwardly cold into someone deeply vulnerable and emotionally charged. The transformation allows her to explore layered emotional shifts, adding yet another dimension to her growing television portfolio.

Her television career extends well beyond one market. She has appeared in British and American productions including Death in Paradise, A Touch of Cloth, Silent Witness, Love, Lies and Records, and Wild Bill. She was a series regular in season three of the American drama Berlin Station, playing a politician and activist, and also guest starred in Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. These roles underline her ability to navigate complex characters in high stakes political and dramatic settings.

Alongside her international projects, Cas continues to take on demanding roles in European cinema. In the Italian film Paradise – Una Nuova Vita, she portrayed a quirky and emotionally textured character, earning the Vesna Award for Best Supporting Actress. She immersed herself completely in the role of a drug addict and singer in the Slovenian character drama I Am Frenk (Jaz sem Frenk), revealing a raw and transformative intensity. In Awakenings (Prebujanja), she delivered a powerful performance as a woman trapped in a toxic relationship with a narcissistic partner, exploring psychological vulnerability with striking realism.

Her genre work includes leading roles in the Serbian science fiction thriller The Rift and the Slovenian thriller It Was a Beautiful Day (Pa tako lep dan je bil), where she proved equally compelling in suspense-driven narratives. Whether navigating psychological drama, dark comedy or science fiction, she approaches each role with intelligence and emotional commitment.

Educated and holding a bachelor’s degree in economics, a field she never pursued professionally, Cas instead invested in a creative path that has steadily expanded across borders. She is not defined by the quantity of films within one national cinema, but by the breadth of her international reach and the diversity of characters she embodies.

With a career that spans languages, industries and genres, Katarina Cas represents a distinctly modern European actress whose trajectory continues to rise. From Hollywood milestones to BBC premieres and award-winning European performances, she has built a body of work that feels both ambitious and unmistakably her own.
